Practical advice for the protection of the health of the elderly during the winter

Practical advice for the protection of the health of the elderly during the winter.....

We all hope that this winter will not be too harsh, but if it is, follow some of the Office of Old and Socially Impaired Groups tips and try to minimize any impact of time on you and your mood. Whether you are in the home or outdoors, coldness can be very bad for you if you are unprepared.

Therefore, please observe the following:

• Store in a balanced way, which will help you feel better during the winter
• Wear suitable layered clothes, rubber sole shoes, warm caps, scarves and gloves
• Stay active and so positively affect your health, walking can be very helpful

During ice-cold snow days, avoid leaving home for the prevention of injuries caused by snow and ice

During heavy snowfall:

• Get information about weather conditions through the media (TV, radio and newspapers).
• Avoid traveling other than necessary
• If you must travel, make sure you are fully prepared for all unforeseen events.
• When outdoors, pay attention to the trembling that is the first symptom of hypothermia and freezing, then move to a warm place.
• Check the weather forecast and, if possible, determine the state of the paths to move.
• Because of cold weather, heart patients and those with high blood pressure should not be further tightened, clean snow, and the like. The body is already energized to maintain the temperature.
• Offer help to your neighbors, one more hand is always welcome.
• Wear warm in a few thin layers.
• Save energy by using one room and keep its temperature at least 20 degrees
• Provide at least one cooked or warm meal per day.
• Insert sufficient amounts of liquid (teas or hot drinks)
